Many film commission web sites include an online production guide, listing film and video production related service providers. Most film commissions (especially the statewide offices and film offices from larger cities) also produce a printed production guide, updated annually. Usually the offices will mail a printed guide to you at no charge (or, at most, for the cost of shipping). These guides are invaluable when producing events in unfamiliar territory.

Although film offices are primarily interested in bringing film and video productions to their area, their staff will usually help event producers by recommending local vendors. Since the film offices usually are part of the local economic development agency, they are interested in bringing out-of-area dollars to their locale. Since special events often do that, they should be happy to help you. Don't be shy in taking advantage of this useful resource.
